2006 Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) Contenders
$3 million, 3yo&up, 1 1/2 miles (turf)

As usual, the edge in the turf goes to the foreign-breds.  Irish-bred Hurricane Run has won four of seven at the distance with two seconds.  No other starter can match that record.  Irish-bred Cacique has an excellent record this year but he has never started at a mile and a half despite a pedigree for it.  Previous Turf winner Better Talk Now has been spotty this year but can't be discounted.  English Channel appears to be the strongest competition for Hurricane Run and with good reason.  His best effort can match or exceed that of any contender.  None of the others seem at quite the same level.  However, Silverfoot is four for four on the Churchill Downs turf but is only one for ten at a mile and a half.  English Channel and Better Talk Now have also won at Churchill Downs.  I'll go with Hurricane Run and the Tabor-Fabre connection followed by English Channel.
