Dosage Success in the 2007 English Classics

The tables below display the starters in the 2007 English 2,000 Guineas and Epsom Derby listed in increasing order of Dosage Index (DI).  In Steve Miller's previews of the two races (Guineas preview and Derby preview), he focuses his selections on a few horses falling within a narrow Dosage range based on historical results.  Attention is drawn to the the horses in both races highlighted in the yellow cells of the tables.

In Mr. Miller's own words:

For all of those who think that reference to a stamina index (i.e. balance of speed vs. stamina) is irrelevant look at the placing in the tables (ranked in order of Dosage index) of the first two colts’ classics. Dosage may not give you the whole picture, but see how it helps you look past ‘received wisdom’ by defining a narrow band from which to draw winners.

The summing up to the Derby article was quite pleasing:

Those with realistic chances who best fit our criteria this year are: Mahler, Authorized, Arabian Gulf [non-runner], Aqaleem, Eagle Mountain and Lucarno. I also have a sneaking regard for the form of Soldier Of Fortune, who will certainly get the trip. Of these Authorized is taken to prevail. Aqaleem could prove next best with the Ballydoyle contingent, Lucarno and Arabian Gulf [non-runner] left to fight over the remaining place in the frame.

VERDICT:

1) Authorized, 1st
    2) Aqaleem, 3rd
    3) Eagle Mountain, 2nd
    4) Soldier Of Fortune, 5th

5) Lucarno, 4th
