Dosage Calculation Tutorial Step 2: Determine whether the first-generation sire is a chef-de-race. In the first generation, Northern Dancer is a Brilliant-Classic chef-de-race. A first-generation chef-de-race gets 16 points. If he represents a single aptitudinal group, all 16 points go in that group. If his aptitudinal groups are split, as they are here, he gets 8 points in each.
